Digital Childhood: Between Virtual Reality, Cybersecurity, and Mental Health

digital childhood

To mark International Children’s Day, we hosted an online session exploring the realities of growing up in a hyperconnected world.

Today’s children are digital natives. Social media shapes their self-esteem, virtual realities introduce new dependencies, and topics like cybersecurity, digital hygiene, and mental health are more important than ever.

Together with Veneta Kiryakova and Boris Goncharov we discussed:

  • The impact of social media on children’s mental health

  • How to recognize and manage screen dependency

  • Why digital literacy and cyber safety should start early

  • The crucial role of parents and educators in building digital resilience

The key message? Raising children in the digital age requires awareness, empathy, and proactive education. The online world is here to stay — but with the right tools and guidance, we can help kids navigate it safely and confidently.
