Build Sprint: A Live Test of Ocean’s Entrepreneurial Culture

Build Sprint 4

On 17–18 January, Ocean Investments proudly sponsored the Build Sprint hackathon — a two-day innovation intensive that turned curiosity into concrete solutions and rough concepts into investor-ready pitches.

Over one intense weekend, builders, founders, and first-time entrepreneurs came together around a shared belief: that meaningful innovation comes from acting early, learning fast, and taking ownership.

This belief is exactly why Ocean chose to support Build Sprint.

From Concept to Reality in Just 48 Hours

What set Build Sprint apart was its uncompromising focus on execution over theory. Participants didn’t need technical backgrounds or polished business concepts to get started. What mattered was curiosity, collaboration, and the courage to build something tangible under real constraints.

Ideas formed organically, solutions evolved in real time, and working products began to take shape within hours. It wasn’t about perfection — it was about momentum. Learning by doing. Testing assumptions early and often.

This hands-on approach created a level of urgency and clarity that’s difficult to replicate in traditional innovation settings — and a powerful reminder that innovation accelerates when people are trusted to act.

Building the Culture We Believe In

At Ocean, we believe the next era of innovation will be shaped not by waiting for certainty, but by building through uncertainty. By people who take ownership, move fast, and learn as they go.

That’s the culture we are intentionally working to create — and the reason Build Sprint resonated so strongly with us.

Four Ocean teams chose to step into this environment. They didn’t participate to win titles or perfect ideas. They joined in to challenge themselves, to test their instincts, and to experience what it means to build under pressure.

And the outcomes spoke for themselves. One Ocean team won first place in the B2B / Enterprise category with a compliance-focused solution addressing real enterprise needs. Another team received recognition and mentorship to further develop their idea. But more importantly, they gained confidence, clarity, and unmatched excitement.

These results were not just competition wins. They were signals that autonomy works, that ownership unlocks energy, and that entrepreneurial thinking is not limited to founders — it’s a skill set that can be learned, practiced, and strengthened.

Ocean Evolution: Making the Mindset Permanent

For Ocean Investments, Build Sprint wasn’t just about sponsoring an event. It was about participating in an environment that mirrors the culture we are actively building through Ocean Evolution — one grounded in experimentation and entrepreneurial thinking.

Build Sprint embodied a principle central to Ocean Evolution: innovation thrives when people stop waiting for perfect conditions and start taking responsibility for outcomes.

This isn’t about reckless action. It’s about recognising that in rapidly changing markets, the biggest risk isn’t making imperfect decisions — it’s the paralysis that comes from over-planning and under-executing.

Ocean Evolution challenges our teams to move from “Can I?” to “How might I?” From seeking approval to seeking progress. From roles to responsibility.

Build Sprint 8

Build Sprint compressed this mindset shift into 48 hours. The teams that thrived had urgency, focus, and the courage to take ownership, and that’s the culture Ocean Evolution is scaling. Not innovation as a separate function, but as a shared capability. Not entrepreneurship as a personality trait, but as a learnable skill set.

Build Sprint showed us what’s possible when people stop waiting and start building. Ocean Evolution is making that possibility permanent.

The momentum continues on 21 March in Sofia, when the next Build Sprint takes place — this time as a special she.vibes edition focused on encouraging more women to build and experiment. Ocean Investments will take part again, continuing to support environments where ideas turn into action and entrepreneurial thinking is actively practiced.

This is only the beginning.
